LOCRI WATERFRONT

The city of Locri, just as Archimedes addressed the Roman soldier, addresses the sea asking to leave its circles intact.

The new Waterfront of Locri, in fact, will be a 1.870 meter long chain formed by a rigorous geometric construction of circumferences of different diameters and colors.

This strategy allows to obtain multiple purposes:

generating a highly attractive element

configuring the space according to different needs with the same elements

identifying the different areas of the waterfront

hierarchization of spaces

the repetition and aggregation of elements guarantee extreme flexibility and leave the system “open” to future dynamics, even those not initially foreseen

ease of placement

economise and rationalize the intervention

combining different colors of the pavement with different vegetation, which ensure a wide chromatic range and alternating flowering throughout the year

This system of circumferences generates green areas, descents to the sea (all accessible to the disabled), seating systems near the vegetation and in privileged areas, play areas and equipped areas.

The stone materials take us back to the Hellenistic origin with the addition of local materials (Reggina stone-Lazzaro). The ancient Greeks saw colors in a way that was closely linked to their way of seeing nature.

The Waterfront will maintain its vehicular accessibility, while parking along the road will be abolished and replaced by a system of parking lots, all located upstream of the promenade.

A cycle path will run parallel to the sea along the entire route and will reconnect, at the southern node, with a cycle-pedestrian path that will be located on the site of the existing dirt path. The system will guarantee the entire accessibility of the sea front and will connect with a slow route the entire strip up to the Archaeological Park.

In the northern part, near the covered Theatre, an Interchange Node will be located that allows the passage from cars to bicycles, serving the cycle-pedestrian path.
