The placement of the new building on the plot is decided based on the existing topography and the visual escapes towards the sea, with the aim of its integration and the production of an aesthetically harmonious and functional result. The orientation parameters are taken seriously, guided by the principles of bioclimatic design and barrier-free accessibility for people with disabilities and people with disabilities, with the aim of designing a sustainable environmental and economic solution.
More specifically, the plot, in terms of its existing topography, presents two sections of approximately equal surface area, of which the northern one consists of stepped levels with dry stone walls, characteristics of a rural structure with a height difference of up to 2m. and the section towards the sea, where a gentle slope dominates up to the level of the beach where the existing ground floor building is also found. The existing vegetation is characterized by olive trees, pomegranate trees and Mediterranean low vegetation.
The proposed complex consists of three new building volumes and the old ground floor building on the southeastern boundary of the plot. At the level +5.50m., which corresponds to the second stepped existing level, part of Building A and Building B are placed in direct relation to each other, separated only by the stone external staircase that leads to the third level (+2.50m.) where the rest of Building A meets. The external staircase maintains the visual escape towards the sea, serves together with inclined levels – pedestrian ramps the entrance to Building C which sits on the last dry stone at the level +4.50m. and then at +1.50m. The choice of inclined planes serves the autonomous and safe access by people with disabilities but at the same time visually smooths out the difference in elevation. Each residence in the complex is a composition of individual volumes, which are connected to each other either by pergolas or by external stairs and longitudinal stone walls in order to create a single architectural ensemble.
