KORFI DE MILOS

The new building complex extends west of the existing building and faces southwest, so as to protect the public and private semi-outdoor spaces from the northerly winds, and also to allow the tourist rooms to face the privileged panoramic view of Adamas, Milos.

The access to the plot is from the north side of the plot through the parking area at an altitude of 46.00m, from where visitors are channeled through landscaped levels and small stairs to the apartments with independent entrances.

The new building is distributed on different levels, following, as far as possible, the slope of the ground, which has been formed into three levels with an elevation difference of 1 m. following the natural slope, aiming for an environmental balance with the landscape. All areas of the complex have access to the paved surfaces of the entrance, but also to further adjacent paved surfaces, which connect the apartments with the communal landscaped area and the swimming pool.

The new complex consists of 9 apartments (4 ground floor, 2 on the first floor and 3 underground). At the middle level of the 46m. level, a communal swimming pool measuring 12m.x4m. and 1.5m deep has been designed.

Regarding the morphology of the building, the architects’ goal is for the building to represent the local traditional architecture in the forms, proportions, scale and materials that derive from the adjacent settlement and its building stock. That is, it tries to adapt the modern way of building construction and the new functional needs of the residents to the traditional standards of the immediate environment.

The existing wall at the boundaries of the plot, almost 50cm thick, made of dry stone, is preserved. The retaining walls between the ground levels are stone.
